Sorority Principles

ACADEMICS
The success and recognition of women depends on our education. We, the future leaders of this country, have the opportunity to pursue a higher education. We believe that a solid education will provide opportunities for personal, professional and educational growth. We have and obligation to ourselves, our families and our sorority sisters to achieve academic success. While we may need to seek help from others like tutors, professors and our sorority sisters in order to obtain our degrees, it is our responsibility to maintain the GPA standards set by our university and sorority.

COMMUNITY SERVICE
We as a sorority and individuals, have an obligation to our community to provide help to those in need, just as those who have helped us obtain our current standings. Our services should be viewed as a way of contributing to the betterment of our community. Through community service we are able to respond to peoples needs through listening and understanding. Participating in community service not only provides a tremendous benefit to those around us, but also allows us to say thank you to those who have helped us when we have needed it most.

CULTURAL AWARENESS
Sigma Lambda Gamma believes that "Culture is Pride, Pride is Success." Though we are a Latina based sorority, we embrace women of all cultures and respect all cultural backgrounds. In other words, being culturally diverse is an important aspect of our sorority, but it is not one that defines us. We are not Latina and we are not multicultural, we are a National sorority that embraces all women. It is our objective to explore the richness in tradition of all cultures that encompasses the heritage of Native Americans (North, Central and South), Europeans, Africans and Asians and their multiple and interesting mixtures.

MORALS AND ETHICS
As members of Sigma Lambda Gamma we display good sound moral judgment at all times, respecting the fact that we are always viewed as representatives of this organization. Our behavior not only reflects our individual value systems, but also influences others perceptions of the sorority. We are considerate and kind to all people, giving people the same respect we would like to be given. As a member of Sigma Lambda Gamma we always represent sisterhood, remembering individual actions reflect on the sorority as a whole.

SOCIAL INTERACTION
As members of Sigma Lambda Gamma, we have the opportunity to be open to all types of positive social interactions. Engaging in social interaction helps us not only understand others but also ourselves. Although we all have our own individual differences, we must be able to accept and be open-minded towards the actions of others. Through socials, we are able to expand our horizons and interact with various organizations. Social functions serve as a time to bond and get to know each other in a fun and relaxing atmosphere.
